No you can’t race alpacas! But we do use the motor racing activities of owner Jon Hilton to advertise our farm. Spectators are welcome and the usual format of the racing means there is plenty of time for questions about either racing cars or alpacas.

Jon competes in sprinting and hillclimb events around the country concentrating on the Circuit Driver Sprint Championship organised by the British Automobile Racing Club. Jon’s day job is as Technical Director of the Engine Division at the Renault Formula One Team, so as you might expect his own racing car is pretty fast!

The car is a DJ Racecars ADS2 single seater specially designed for hillclimbs and sprinting. Running large carbon fibre wings and wide, very soft slick tyres the car develops enormous grip on the track. The engine is a specially modified Suzuki motorcycle engine which has been enlarged to 1340cc and uses a turbo charger to help it develop over 265 BHP.

The car uses many specialist components including the engine management system from DTA in Bradford and suspension tuning services from Octave Engineering in Daventry. The car has many electronic systems fitted including some that are illegal in Formula One (but not in sprinting). These include Launch control, traction control and shift without lift. The car will do 0-60 MPH in less than 4 seconds and 0-100 MPH in 8 seconds.
